Peanut butter and jelly burglar on the loose

A North Seattle resident returned home July 21 to find his house in the 13000 block of Meridian Avenue North covered in peanut butter and jelly, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to the police report, peanut butter and jelly was smeared on most of the floors, furniture and more. Even the man's dog was covered in peanut butter and jelly, according to the report.

In addition, someone threw up in the bed of the man's daughter, according to the report.

Officers believe an unlocked window was the likely point of entry.

The man's daughter told police she thinks her friend, a known drug user, is the culprit. According to the daughter, her friend smeared lotion all over another friend's apartment the previous night.

The only item missing from the house: a jar of peanut butter.

Man suing Hilton over 75 cent charge for newspaper

A guest at a Hilton hotel in Santa Rosa who was upset that he was billed 75 cents for a newspaper he assumed was free has filed a federal class-action lawsuit against the hotel chain, saying he was deceived by a scheme that also hurts the environment.

Rodney Harmon, 55, of Sacramento said he visited the Hilton Garden Inn Sonoma County Airport on March 28 and saw a copy of USA Today outside his door.

"He did not request a newspaper and assumed it had been placed there by hotel staff," said the suit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. Harmon didn't realize until later that a 75-cent charge for the paper had been added to his bill.

Harmon accused Hilton of deliberately hiding the newspaper charge by describing the fee in an "extremely small font which is difficult to notice or read" on the sleeve of the room card.

The suit noted that newspaper readership and circulation has drastically declined over the past several decades and that most hotel guests probably aren't reading the paper anyway. The wasted papers are an "offensive waste of precious resources and energy," said the suit, which also said that "deforestation caused by paper production is a matter of concern and worry in this state, country and worldwide."

"Certainly if people who don't want newspapers are getting newspapers and then not using them, that is waste that we don't need," Kirk Wolden, an attorney representing Harmon, said Friday,

"The alleged consumer injury is substantial, causing millions of guests at defendant's hotels to unwittingly part with money for a newspaper they did not request and reasonably believed was provided to them without charge," the suit says.

Having a designated driver is good; using an 8 year old is bad

State Police arrested a man who was intoxicated and let his eight-year-old drive while the family drove from Mississippi to Texas, according to State Police spokeswoman Trooper Melissa Matey.

State Police stopped the truck around 6:30 a.m. on Interstate-12 near Holden, La. Police pulled the truck over after a call from a concered motorist said the truck was driving erratically and a child was at the wheel, said Matey.

“Troopers determined that the driver was an eight-year-old with his four-year-old sister in the rear seat and their father, Billy Joe Madden, 28, of Hattiesburg, Miss., in the passenger seat,” said a statement from Matey.

According to police, Madden was intoxicated and sleeping in the the truck while his son drove the truck from Mississippi to Dallas, Texas.

Both children were turned over to Child Protective Services and are awaiting the arrival of a family member, according to police.

Madden was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on two counts of child desertion, parent allowing a minor to drive, open container, and two counts of no child restraint and no seatbelt, according to police.

Early life

Victoria Justice was born on February 19, 1993, in Hollywood, Florida, to Serene and Zack Justice. Her mother is Puerto Rican and her father is of English, German, and Irish descent. She first developed an interest in acting when she was 8 years old after watching a children's commercial.

She and her family relocated to Hollywood, California, in 2003. In 2005, she auditioned and was accepted into the musical theatre program at Los Angeles' renowned Performing Arts Magnet school.

Philanthropy

Justice has taken part in a few charity events. She has supported charities such as the United Nations Foundation, which benefits numerous causes such as AIDS, Children, Environment, Health, Human Rights and Peace. On September 30, 2010, Justice announced she would be joining the Charity Campaign Girl Up. When asked about joining, she stated "I’m so excited to become a Champion for Girl Up and to help make a difference for girls who aren’t given the same opportunities that most of us take for granted. I know that there are plenty of girls throughout the country who are just like me – ready and motivated to stand up for the rights and well-being of girls in the developing world. I am confident that, together, we will rise to the challenge."

Justice joined Girl Up on September 30, 2010 for the campaign’s official launch in New York City and will go on to support the “Unite for Girls” tour, which travels to cities across the U.S. to activate and engage teens from coast to coast. I was looking into different charities and hearing these girls in Guatemala and Africa talk about having to walk miles for water and crying because they don't have any money to go to school. It just really broke my heart, so I want to spread the word as much as I can and get other people working together. Before you know it we can actually make a difference."

Her family moved from Hollywood, Florida, to Los Angeles when she was 11 after Justice had stated she wanted to be a part of filming commercials as well as television series and films. Justice has done commercials for companies such as Ralph Lauren, Gap and Guess. She appeared in national commercials for Mervyn's, Peanut Butter Toast Crunch and Ovaltine.

Man files suit for his right to beg for marijuana money

The "Weed Man" of Times Square demands his constitutional right to beg. Joshua Long - who carries a sign saying "Help! I need money for weed" - filed a federal suit complaining that his First, Fourth and 14th Amendment rights have been violated by repeated arrests.

"Though the First Amendment protects Mr. Long's right to stand on the sidewalk with his sign, he has been, and continues to be, regularly and wrongfully, arrested, charged and harassed by police officers," the suit says.

"These arrests and other harassment have diminished Mr. Long's ability to lawfully beg in Times Square." Long, 30, has been issued multiple summonses, arrested at least six times, pepper sprayed and harassed by police, according to court papers in Manhattan Federal Court.

"He certainly has the right to stand on the sidewalk and ask for money," said Long's lawyer, Matthew Brinckerhoff. "I can only conclude that the police don't like his message." Long is seeking a court order protecting Long's right to beg and unspecified damages and lawyer fees.

I'm not really a hippie

I thought I would score higher. Faked it through the 60s and 70s but it was all a lie.

You are 26% hippie.

You're not in the lowest bracket of non-hippie-hood, but you're close. I advise a field trip to a food co-op or a farmer's market. Do a few interviews and take notes, because there will be a quiz next week to see if you've learned anything.

Mixed-race woman to marry jailed white supremacist on Hitler's birthday

A mixed-race woman due to marry a white supremacist murder suspect has spoken out in support of her man.

Erica Herrera, who is half Hawaiian and half Hispanic, said despite prison inmate Curtis Allgier's frightening appearance - with tattoos of swastikas and the word 'skinhead' covering his face - he is 'kinder' and 'gentler' than he is publicly portrayed.

'He's a very sweet, loving…He's a really kind-hearted, good person,' she said, defending her plans to marry the man who faces the death penalty for murder.

Herrera, from Sacramento, California, plans to marry Allgier, 31, in a ceremony at the Utah State Prison in Draper on August 8.

Allgier is accused of shooting to death prison guard Stephen Anderson, a charge to which he has plead not guilty.

His bride-to-be, who started communicating with Allgier before the 2007 shooting, said she believes he is innocent.

If he is ever convicted, she would either divorce him or annul the marriage, she said.

The couple, who corresponded for years as friends before starting a serious relationship, will exchange vows through a glass wall at the prison.

The honeymoon will be abstinent, although Herrera said they are requesting a transfer to a state where conjugal visits are allowed.

This is quite the touching story. Hispanic woman and white skinhead with swastikas fall in love. And what could be more romantic than tying the knot on Hitler's birthday? Well maybe a guilty verdict and a date with the electric chair. That nasty business about gunning down a prison guard. Well boys will be boys.
