10 years since 9/11

In 24 days it will be the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. I will continue to highlight those events of 2001.

Passengers begin an all out assault on the cockpit of United Flight 93 attempting to reclaim control of the aircraft from the three hijackers now barricaded within. This action is believed to have caused the hijackers to give up plans for attacking a fourth target, speculated to have been the White House itself.

With fires burning unchecked for more than an hour, the South Tower of the World Trade Center succumbs to gravity and stress, falling to the street below at 9:59 EST. Hundreds still trapped within the building, and countless heroes who ran into the building to help with evacuation are killed in an instant.

Flight 93, the last of the hijacked aircraft crashes into a field near Stonycreek Township, PA at 10:10 AM EST. It is speculated that the passengers aboard the flight breached the cockpit door and disrupted the navigation of the plane causing it to roll over on its belly and strike the ground at more than 550 mph.

Due to the force of the impact and raging fires, one of the outer walls on the western face of the Pentagon collapses.
