10 years since 9/11

In 28 days it will be the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. The objectives of those attacks were to strike at the heart of the economic and military centres of America. With the death of Osama bin Laden earlier this year it closed another chapter on the on going hostilities between the West and radical Islamists. Bin Laden had intended to bring down the American economy by attacking Wall Street. He failed. The attack had virtually no impact on the America economy. Ironically less than a decade later the American economy did come crashing down, brought down by greed.

Over the next 4 weeks I will highlight those events of 2001.

Loaded with 92 people aboard, American Airlines Flight 11 departs Boston's Logan International Airport at 8:00 AM EST heading for Los Angeles Inernational Airport.

At 8:15 AM EST, United Airlines Flight 175 departs from Boston's Logan International Airport bound for Los Angeles International Airport with 65 aboard.

With 64 aboard, American Airlines Flight 77 departs Washington Dulles International Airport at 8:20 AM EST bound for Los Angeles International Airport.

The FAA notifies NORAD's Northeast Air Defense Sector of a suspected hijacking aboard American Airlines Flight 11.

Headed for San Francisco, United Flight 93 departs Newark with 37 passengers and 7 crew at 8:42 AM EST.

The FAA notifies NORAD's Northeast Air Defense Sector of a second suspected hijacking. This time of United Airlines Flight 175.

American Airlines Flight 11 strikes the north World Trade Center tower at 8:46 AM EST, killing all 92 aboard and countless others within the building itself.
