The legend of Brett Lawrie grows. The Jays’ rookie third baseman stood in the batter’s box in the ninth inning staring down Angels closer Jordan Walden. The Langley, B.C. native worked the count to 3-1, then took what he though was ball four. No. He stepped back in and ripped a double to the alley in left centre field scoring Colby Rasmus to tie the game at four. Not done, Lawrie stole third with one out, forcing the Angels to a five-man infield. J.P. Arencibia fanned, the Angels moved back to their normal defence and John McDonald popped up sending the game to extra innings.
